Animals are often perceived as second class citizens, it is a common thought that they lack the intelligence and emotion of a human being. My mission is to help to create a better understanding of animals in the hope that humans will be more considerate toward the animals’ welfare.

About Me

I have always had a great passion for animals, from a young age I was restricted to keeping the odd budgerigar and family cats but as I grew older and went on my own path I started showing more interest in a variety of different animals.

When I was 16 I came across a chatty older couple who lived a few houses up from me, they bred cockatiels, gouldians, canaries, budgies and chickens - I soon became a regular visitor of theirs!

One day while helping the couple feed their flock, they told me about a young cockatiel who was close to fledging but her mother had stopped feeding her and they feared the worst, not knowing much about birds I took to the internet and after doing some research I decided to take the chick to handrear as my own. Sunny was her name and she was the light of my life, she had such a beautiful and loving nature and we formed an incredible bond.
Sadly after 3 months Sunny's health started to go downhill, she stopped eating, her breathing became laboured and after taking her to the vet and sleeping on the floor of my heated lounge room next to her cage for a few nights, while keeping me company in the kitchen one night she passed away.
Sunny had coccidiosis.
While Sunny's passing was extremely emotional, her brief part in my life has pushed me into the career path I was meant to follow.

Being a naive new aviculturist I soon accumulated 60 or so birds, I was fortunate enough to live in Toowoomba, Queensland at the time, home of Dr. Bob Doneley's practice. Dr. Bob was kind enough to visit and his advice set me off in the right direction.

I love all animals and am always looking to learn more but take pride in my knowledge of birds.
I have bred and handreared a bit of everything, Neophemas (Grass Parakeet), Cockatiels, Budgies, Canaries, Conures, Quakers, 28 Parrots and Eclectus just to name a few.

I have gained my knowledge through hands on experiences such as raising miniature pigs, goats, puppies and kittens, training and owning various dogs and cats including a cat with epilepsy, working in a Zoo and Pet Shops, Caring for wildlife through a number of organisations, having work experience in the RSPCA and a local vets and studying. I am currently studying a Certificate III in Companion Animal Services.

My current managerie includes, Eastern Rosellas, Budgies, Cockatiels, Kakarikis, King Quail, 2 cats, a Bedlington Terrier and a Red-Haired Tarantula.
